Communication plans are most useful when they are simple. If phones, mobile data or home internet become unreliable, your household should know what to try first.

Write the contact list

Include household members, close relatives, school or childcare contacts, medical contacts and one contact outside your immediate area if relevant.

Keep one printed copy at home and another in a bag or document folder.

Decide message priorities

Short messages are more likely to work during network congestion. Agree on simple status messages such as “safe at home”, “going to meeting point” or “need help”.

Pick meeting points

Choose a nearby location and a backup location. Make sure they are specific enough to avoid confusion.

Review tools

Know which official alert channels, local radio stations or emergency apps are relevant where you live.
